The Art of Discovery: How We Found Our Piece of Paradise Through Virtual Networks

In a world full of possibilities and virtual connections, our search for the perfect property begins far from home, yet closer to our dreams than we ever imagined. It’s not just the longing for a new lifestyle, but also the fascination with using the internet for such purposes that sets us on this journey.

Our adventure begins with an idea, a spark of hope, and two laptops. We browse online platforms, sift through forums, watch hours of YouTube videos, and exchange ideas with like-minded people from around the world. Every click, every message, and every virtual connection brings us closer to our goal.

It’s not just the technology that helps us, but also the humanity we encounter online. The support and advice from people who have already walked similar paths give us courage and inspiration. It’s as if we’re wandering through unknown terrain together, hand in hand, even though we’ve never met in person.

Over months (looking back, more like two to three years), we scoured every possible real estate platform. From the unexpected WillHaben to various Facebook groups and every real estate platform that appeared online. Here are a few of them listed:

And then it happens—an offer too good to be true. A piece of land that seems to fulfill all our dreams and desires finds its way to us through the endless expanse of the internet. We don’t hesitate long and take the leap into the unknown.

Today, we stand here, on our piece of paradise, which we discovered through the art of finding and the power of virtual networks. It’s more than just land—it’s a symbol of our dreams, our determination, and the relentless power of the internet to connect us and allow us to realize our visions.

What It Would Take to Feed Yourself

This article shows, step by step, what it would take for two adults to feed themselves from their own land for a full year. We translate nutrient targets into concrete crop choices and areas: calorie staples (potatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash, roots), protein from dry beans, soy, lentils and lupins, leafy/brassica greens, sauce and summer vegetables, grains and pseudograins for bread and pasta, plus fat-rich seeds, berries, fruit trees and nuts. Realistic field and storage losses are budgeted; processing (canning, fermenting, milling, flaking) and storage needs are built in. The result is a practical, cool-climate-ready plan with total area requirements, seasonal workload, and resilient meal building blocks that keep plates filled year-round.
